General Jump-Starting Guidance

Important: Check the owner’s manuals for both vehicles before proceeding. Both vehicles must use the same system voltage. Do not use jumper leads on a leaking, cracked, swollen or visibly damaged battery.

Park the vehicles close enough for the cables to reach without allowing the vehicles to touch.
Turn both vehicles off, place them in Park or Neutral, apply the handbrakes and switch off electrical accessories.
Connect one RED clamp to the positive (+) terminal or designated positive jump point of the flat vehicle.
Connect the other RED clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the donor vehicle.
Connect one BLACK clamp to the negative (-) terminal of the donor vehicle.
Connect the remaining BLACK clamp to a solid, bare metal earth point on the flat vehicle, away from the battery, unless the vehicle manufacturer instructs otherwise.
Start the donor vehicle and allow it to run briefly before attempting to start the flat vehicle.
Once the flat vehicle starts, leave both vehicles running briefly.
Remove the clamps in reverse order, beginning with the BLACK clamp attached to the flat vehicle’s earth point.

Keep the cables clear of fans, belts and moving engine components. Stop immediately if the cables, clamps or protection unit appear damaged.

Which AMP rating should I choose?

Choose 400AMP for standard sedans and compact cars, 600AMP for SUVs and light commercial vehicles, or 1000AMP for 4WDs, larger vehicles and diesel V8 engines. The 1000AMP option also provides a longer 6m cable.

Why choose 1000AMP instead of 600AMP?

The 1000AMP option is designed for larger and more demanding vehicle applications. It also includes a 6m cable rather than 3.6m, providing substantially more freedom when vehicles cannot be positioned close together.

Are all three options surge protected?

Yes. Each option includes surge protection designed to help protect sensitive vehicle electronics, along with an integrated LED volt gauge. Always follow the vehicle manufacturer’s jump-starting procedure.

Can these be used with 12V and 24V vehicles?

The donor and disabled vehicles must use the same system voltage, and jump-starting must be permitted by both vehicle manufacturers. Never connect a 12V vehicle directly to a 24V vehicle.

Does cable length matter?

Yes. Longer cables make it easier to connect vehicles that cannot be parked nose-to-nose or have batteries in awkward locations. The 400AMP and 600AMP sets are 3.6m long, while the 1000AMP set provides 6m of reach.
