Dry chemical fire extinguishers can be used on a variety of common fire causing materials:

A - Paper, wood, textile objects

B - Flammable liquids: paint, oil, petroleum, grease, ect.

E – Electrical Equipment: Appliances, switchboards, motors, and machinery.

Is it made of steel or aluminium?

ABE Extinguishers cylinders are almost never made from aluminium, as ABE powder reacts with and will corrode aluminium over time. Typically only CO2 extinguishers will use aluminium in their construction.

Can the brass mechanism trigger be screwed off?

Yes, the valve may be screwed off and disassembled if required.

However, some safety notes:

The valve MUST NOT be removed if the extinguisher is pressurised. All extinguishers contain compressed gas stored at high pressure. Any tampering with an extinguisher valve while pressurised may lead to injury.

Completely discharging an extinguisher is not an indicator that the compressed gas is at a safe pressure. The valve should be left open while unscrewing from the cylinder to ensure there is no pressure build-up.

If the purpose of removing the valve is to recharge the extinguisher, this should only be done by trained service technicians and genuine parts may only be used when recharging.

Use of non-genuine parts and untrained individuals when recharging will void warranty and breach the requirements of Australian Standards, as we are no longer able to guarantee the performance of the product.
